The International Festival Of Antique Arts «Bosporan Agons»
The International Festival of Antique Arts «Bosporan Agons» was founded in one of the most ancient city in Ukraine – in Kerch (Autonomous Republic of Crimea) in 1999. The Festival «Bosporan Agons» is a unique art project and has no analogy in Ukraine and Crimea. In 2006 the State Department of the Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine registered the author’s rights for the project “Concept and Regulations of the International Festival of Antique Arts «Bosporan Agons» ( certificate No 16698).
The structure of the Festival is very close to the Ancient Greek “Olympic Games” or “Dimitrias”. The Festival is a symbiosis of the ancient and the modern arts in their different expressions.
It is no coincidence that the festival takes place in Kerch, because only this land has so powerful historical potential as one of the most ancient cities in the world. The Organizer of the Festival tries to direct this potential to assist in the creative development of the different areas of Ukrainian arts.
In 2004 The International Festival of Antique Arts «Bosporan Agons» was awarded with a special prize of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in the nomination “For the contribution to the activity for peace, development and prosperity of Crimea”.
Nowadays in the period of the culture decadence, we’re sure that the culture based on the rich historical heritage and national traditions can unite people and create the moral basis of the society. «There is no future without past». This is the motto of the Festival «Bosporan Agons» which reflects its conception.
The Festival helps to develop the culture of different nationalities, to strengthen the international cultural affairs, to integrate the local culture to the international one. Thanks to this Festival young people of Ukraine take an active part in the international cultural process.
The experimental art forms of the Festival incorporate the ancient themes of our common roots with the new and innovative vision of the classics. The unique purpose of the above project is also in the performance of the antique theme using the national basis of different nations. In fact, this is the dialogue between the ancient and modern cultures.
Within the last few years the festival has become a long-awaited cultural event, significant performance, which represents the culture and traditions of different peoples and nationalities. It makes the creative atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding.
During the Festival Crimea becomes a place of competition of well-known theatres, a place of meetings with the popular actors and directors, famous and young painters, writers, musicians. The local people and the guests of the Crimea can visit the performances and exhibitions that can not be seen wherever else.
The festival is based on the cultural heritage of the regions, including the wide range of the creative undertakings such as traditional folk crafts, music, theatre plays, fashion shows, video films and design. The Festival has been included to the Presidential list of events of the year and to the list of events of the inter-state agreement of cultural cooperation between Russia and Ukraine.

In 2007 for the first time the Festival has taken place not only in Kerch. Different competitions and events have been held in other ancient towns of Crimea: Feodosia, Evpatoria, Yalta, Alushta and in the capital of Crimea - Simferopol.

Drama contest
Traditionally it is the most important event of the Festival.
Professional and amateur theatres from different countries can take part in the drama contest which motto is «From ancient times to present days».
Drama contest of world-known national theatres was taking place in Kerch from 28th June to 3rd July 2007. The contest of the professional theatres was taking place in Evpatoria from 25th June to 3rd July 2007. For the last years the theatres from Ukraine, Russia, Byelorussia, Germany, Armenia, Moldavia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Austria and Italy have taken part in the Festival.
This year the theatres from the USA, Polland, Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan have claimed to take part in the Drama contest.
One of the bright features of the festival is the Festival Jury. Famous actors and directors of different countries have been the members of the Festival Jury. Vasily Lanovoy, Kirill Lavrov, Evgeny Knyzev, Donatas Banionis, Bogdan Stupka, Larisa Kadurova, Alexey Kuznetsov, Alexander Filipenko, Vladimir Korenev, Alexander Goloborod,ko, Bulat Mansurov, Dmitry Kharatyan have been among them. The audience of the Festival has an opportunity to meet the Jury members and interact with them during the festival days.
Fine arts and photo contest
The students of Simferopol school of fine arts take part in this contest. They paint their works on the ancient themes in Kerch, Feodosia, Evpatoria and Alushta.
The professional photo artists from Ukraine and some foreign countries take part in the contest «Crimea as we see it». (Crimea in the eyes of the photo-artist). Then the exhibitions have been organized for residents of Crimean towns. They started their work on 26th June.
Musical contest
Musical potential of Ukraine and Russia was represented by brass bands and symphony orchestras. There was the performances in Kerch and Evpatoria from 26th June to 30th of June. Contest of chamber ensembles took place in Kerch music school.
Literature contest
It had started before the beginning of the Festival. But the results was summed up on 1st July. The main centers of this contest were Kerch and Evpatoria. After the Festival books of poetry will be published.
Historical film contest
The main purpose of this page is to include the cinema genre into the row of other genres of Arts in the frames of the festival, involving the cinema and TV people into the participation in the festival events. Besides we are planning to show films and videos for a great member of spectators.
This contest was taking place in Feodosia from 23rd of June to 3rd of July. At the ceremony of the opening we celebrated the 45th anniversary of the popular film «Amphibian-Man». The actors and people who made this film were present.
Exhibitions
The participants of this Festival page are Ukrainian museums and preserves, which present unique and interesting exhibitions.
On 27th June in Kerch the museum page of the Festival was opened. The residents of Kerch and the guests of the Festival saw such exhibitions as «Vorontsov Palace», «One picture exhibition» (from famous galleries), Kerch artist exhibition, exhibition of photo- artist Vladimir Ogloblin from Kharkov and exhibition of Kharkiv Embroidery Club “Ta mila”.
Grand Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony
Grand Opening Ceremony of the Festival is traditionally the brightest and fairy event. It takes place on the steps of Mitridates stair case.
During these ceremonies the audience can see the theatrical processions and performance with the participation of all the artistic groups of the Festival, antique fights, fireworks.
At the Closing Ceremony all stars of the festival get together for gala show, the winners get prizes.
An International Festival of Antique Arts «Bosporan Agons» develops international cultural relations.
