Tour program

Day 1-2.

  • Arrival to Kiev. Visiting the following sites:
  • Pecherskaya Lavra. It's a working monastery (11-12 century A.D.) where you can see the caves where the monks used to live and their mummies are kept now; churches , the Museum of Ukrainian Historical jewelries ( mostly Scythian gold);
  • Desyatynnaya Church (9 century A.D.), Historical Museum of Ukraine, Historical Museum of the Ukrainian National Academy of Science. Both museums have amazing collection of Ancient artifacts found on the territory of Ukraine.
  • Departure to Odessa.

Day 3-4

  • Arrival to Odessa.
  • City tour, in-route visiting of the Archeological Museum. Travel to the town of Ochakov to reach by boat the island of Berezan. There is the most ancient Greek settlement in the Northern Black Sea coast ( 7 century B.C.).
  • Continue to Olvia – Ancient Greek colony ( 6 century B.C.). There is a small museum there and a lapidary collection.
  • On the way to Crimea from Olvia visit two small towns Kherson and Ordzhonikidze. In Kherson there are some Scythian barrows and settlements ( 4-5 c. BC). In Ordzhonikidze you can see the remnants of the Scythian Barrow.
  • Departure to Crimea.

Day 5

  • Arrival to Chernomorskoye. Visiting an Ancient Greek complex of country estates and necropolis (5 c. BC), Historical museum. Continue to the Ancient Greek colony Koloss Limen (4 c.BC – 1 c. AD) and the late Scythian settlements Kulchuk and Donuzlav (3 c.BC – 1 c. AD).
  • Arrival to Sevastopol

Day 6

  • Visiting Khersones – Ancient Greek colony (5 c BC) and the place of Russia christening in the 9th c. AD. Continue to the cave settlements Mangup-Kale and Eski-Kermen ( it's like Petra in Turkey). They are dated by 14 c. AD. Very picturesque and interesting places. They have been excavated up to nowadays and you will be able to meet scientists who work there. You can also visit Bakhchisarai – medieval capital of Crimean Khans and see the beautiful Khans' Palace.
  • Arrival to Sudak.

Day 7.

  • Visiting the Genoese Fortress ( 14 c. AD), continue to Feodosia . There is a small Historical museum, remnants of the Genoese Fortress ( 14 c. AD). Great museum - gallery of Aivazovskiy – the most famous Russian marine artist (19 c. AD). In-route visiting Illuratis – ancient Greek settlement in modern village of Priozernoye.
  • Arrival to Kerch.

Day 8 – 9

  • Visiting the Museum of Antiquities – one of the oldest and the richest Archeological museums in Ukraine. You'll see the Ancient Greek and Scythian Gold Chamber, the second in the world lapidary collection, we will arrange a meeting with the director and provide access to the museum depository. You'll see the ruins of Panticapaeum ( 6 c. BC – 1 c. AD) - once the capital of Bosporan Kingdom where Mithridat VI Eupator lived and died, visit an ancient crypt with frescos on the walls. You will visit Tsar's Burial Mound – the great architect monument of 4 c. BC. You will visit the following ancient settlements – Nimpheum, Mirmekiy, Kitey, Artezian and others to see the ruins of settlements with altars, wineries, lighthouses, fortresses, Doric columns, crypts in the rocks and many other historical features.

Day 10

  • Departure to Simferopol. Meeting with the professors of the Crimean department of the Institute of Archeology of Ukraine. Departure to Kyiv by train or by plane.
